Learning at Legacy
Our Approach
The Legacy Approach
The instructional mission of The Legacy School is to provide students with an exceptional culturally responsive experiential learning academic education, such as project-based learning, that will equip them with the knowledge and skills to succeed at the secondary and post-secondary levels. Legacy is intentional about building deeper learning skills — critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, communication, and learning how to learn — are the core focus of instruction.
Our academic experience is rooted in the fundamental idea of a modern liberal arts and sciences education, which includes the study of literature, mathematics, history, and science. It is designed to foster in students the desire and capacity to learn, think critically, and communicate proficiently and to prepare them to function as engaged citizens.
We believe students deserve to be engaged in learning experiences that are relevant to them in today’s world, have multiple entry points reflective of the diversity in today’s schools, and are driven by inquiry and problem-solving. We believe that project-based learning should be hands-on, centered around developing 21st-century skills and provide multiple paths for students to master and show mastery of the content and design thinking skills. We also believe that project-based learning tasks should focus on and evaluate the design-thinking process, including questioning, researching, collaborating, prototyping, revising, reflecting, and finalizing the end product.
